Redfern over the past couple years has seen a revival and is now starting to establish itself with some world class bars, cafes and restaurants.

I have done your homework for you and below are my local recommendations and everything else you might need to get the most out of Sydney City life! Carpe Diem!!

Cafes - Good coffee, tea and Breakfast
  • Hunter corner – personal favorite, good breakfast – Cnr of Pitt and Redfern Street.
  • Baffi and Mo’s – directly across the road. Great salads lunches and homemade cakes. Regina always looks after you here.
  • Coffee Me and Tea – hole in the wall café, 93 Redfern street, turn left as you walk out of Buxton house gate and is first café on left. Excellent Bagels and good coffee.
  • Three Williams – boasts a sophisticated warehouse feel, with leather bench seating, raw wood and exposed brickwork. Seasonal produce with a 5 star menu which is just around the corner at 613A Elizabeth Street.
  • Scouts Honor – Excellent breakfasts – healthy organic alternative
  • Breadfern – Delicious freshly baked bread and great coffee and pies! Go to for your sour dough if you want to take it back home.

  • Bistro St Jacques, 92 Pitt Street Redfern- Highly recommended, modern French cuisine sourced from Sydney’s best local produce. Ask for Gary and he will look after you. Well priced and endless wine selection.
  • La Coppola – Absolutely love their Woodfire Pizza! Order and have them deliver it across the road to you at the Noble hops beer brewers. 152 Redfern street.
  • Tany’s Japanese restaurant – Excellent and conveniently across the road.
  • JUAN – bowl and tea – creative japanese cusine, stylish and hip atmosphere.
  • Kepos Street Kitchen – Mediterranean and Middle Eastern twist, served Street side to an open kitchen.
  • IZAAC – Contemporary Mediterranean restaurant and bar.
  • Redfern Continental – Classic European dishes with a bar out the back. Great atmosphere!
  • MKOLNER – Viking bar and feasts.
  • Lal Quila – Amazing Pakistani Indian cuisine, exotic curries and large selection of Naan bread! always love going here!

  • Bamboo Thai – Quick and Convenient staple thai.
  • Thai Square – A tasty meal, made in record time that wont break the budget.
  • Mai Viet – 279 Cleveland Street Redfern – great big bowls.
  • Vermicelli Noodle bar – great pho and salad bowls – lunch only.
  • Viet Healthy Rolls – 573 Elizabeth Street.
  • Milk Bar by Cafe Ish – leaving the best till last. HUGE handcrafted Burgers, Beers, Fries, Donuts and Milkshakes!! 105 Regent Street, near train station.
Explore Redfern - Parks, Pool, Run or Yoga
  • Redfern Park – for a peaceful stroll
  • Prince Alfred Pool – Modern 50m outdoor pool, convenient 5min walk
  • Body Mind Life – has an amazing Yoga Studio overlooking the park. Classes for all levels and relaxing Vibe.
  • 10 min walk to central station, Hay market / Chinatown to get some shopping done
  • Centennial Park is a short walk from the Buxton house with is 189 hectares which makes up lightly wooded grounds and small hills. If your looking for that morning Run location and to escape the city buzz the park is your tranquil escape. Can ride horses or bike in the park which also has a large ponds and cafes.
  • Walk to central CBD in about 20 mins or a 10-15AUD uber.
  • Surry Hills 10 min walk, next suburb with even more nightlife and restaurants.
  • Walk through Darlington / Chippendale to Newtown in about 15mins
  • Central Park Shopping mall an movie Theatre. There is also Broadway movie theatre
Pubs and Bars - The Nightlife!
  • Bart Juniors – Ideal location and crowd – Cocktails and  great bar Food. There menu is always being updated – highly recommend!
  • Tudor Hotel – Pub – Trivia on Wed and Good to catch Sport!
  • Woolpack hotel – Great food and another Cosy pub
  • Misfits – Cocktail bar in state of the Art interiors
  • Arcadia Bar – Cocktails and Dreams
  • Noble Hops – Craft Beer bar with Sydneys bests Ales
  • Moyas Juniper Gin bar – Biggest Gin bar in Sydney – Crystal Glass to lips
  • The bearded Tit – Random happenings
  • Venue 505 – Jazz live music and commedy most nights
  • Gunther’s dinning Room aka GDR- located out the back of the Redfern Continental the bar reminds you of boogie nights!
  • Redfern Surf Club – nowhere near the beach but decor says otherwise. Building was an ex bank that they have revamped with top craft beers and cocktails flowing. The bar pays tribute to the classic movie Point Break, whats not to like.
Supermarket / Groceries
  • Woolworths – around the corner 261-265 Chalmers Street Redfern – 2 min walk, recommend this is your closest.
  • Redfern Convenience Store – huge instagram following and famous
  • Aldi Waterloo – short 5 min drive
  • SPAR supermarket – located next to the train station
ATM / Cash Machine / Medical / Emergency
  • ANZ bank ATM/Cash Machine is located on the corner of Redfern and George Street or further down there is a CBA bank ATM on the corner of Renwick and George Street. Alternatively you can withdraw cash at the Woolworths supermarket on Chalmers Street.
